That sounds like a plan and good thinking also. Personally I never bushwack since the majority of accidents that occur in the field are usually the result of someone wishing to play Stanley and Dr. Livingston, going off trail..

If you wear long sleeves and pants, you should be fine against the possibility of exposure to Lyme. But then again, it depends where you reside. Here on the east coast, it's just about everywhere, not too much as you make your way south and also out west, with the exception of Michigan..
