I've recently subscribed to "Field & Stream" and I have to say that the magazine is quite good and still provides a plethora of useful information for the outdoors.

    Cheers,

I have read so many hiking books and magazines, but my favorite book is Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston. You will definitely get all important information's regarding the hiking after reading this book.
