I think it would be good for a new member to have an area dedicated to introducing themselves.

Alice came to a fork in the road, " which road do I take"? she asked.
"Where do you want to go"? responded the cheshire cat.
" I don't know," Alice anwered.
"Then," said the cat, " it doesn't matter".

just to chime in, that was the first thing I looked for, so I agree, it would be a nice idea.![]()
I do like this idea. I noticed many threads recently in the general talk area with people introducing themselves. It is great to welcome someone new aboard, I feel that thread would benefit the community.

The smell of the bush after rain, the solitude and isolation, just you and the track with the birds singing
the crickets and cicada chirping.

I'm a long time hiker, backpacker, and hunter. I'm also a NYS licensed outdoor guide, but I don't use my license for profit. I lead hikes just for the fun of it and to keep introducing new people to the great outdoor opportunities in western New York.
I use to be a "big vacation" backpacker - everywhere from Alaska to Louisiana, but now I prefer getting out for hikes or shorter backpacking trips every weekend closer to home. I spend more time on the trail and less hassles getting there.
I've been backpacking as an adult since the early 1970's, but in the last 5 years I learned of two things that have greatly increased my enjoyment on the trail - kilts and hammocks. Wish I had known of them 40 years ago.
