    Water purification tablets????

So I have been wanting to add some water purifications to my pack and really have no idea which ones to get. So can anyone help me out. I have a few questions.
    1) Does Brand matter, I'm leaning toward Katadyn
    2) Is there any big differance between the tablets on the market.
    3) Is there a standard of certification that these water tablets have? Katadyn states something like that?
    4) Do they expire?

yes, they do expire. I can think of at least two different brands of water purification tablets, and they are very different in price, cost, and chemical action. the less expensive ones are awful in taste, but cheap, and Ive never bought the more expensive ones. sorry. I usually dont bring them anyway. you can always boil the water first if youre unsure about the quality.

I have to agree. I don't really believe they can make the water potable without boiling.

The best way to purify the water is boiling and after boiled it use chlorine tablet to get your water fresh. but remember don't use this tablet in a high amount , like always use 1 tablet for 20 ltrs of water.

I used to carry Aquamira tablets, but just as WoAk mentioned, I now carry a canteen cup instead.. If the need arises, I will settle on boiling my drinking water than to drink that chlorine tasting mixture..

Up here there is a heavy political and economic push to restore our lakes and rivers to increase salmon population. Thanks to the EPA, Atlantic Salmon Conservation, and Downeast Salmon Federation there are heavy restrictions. So the rivers are pretty clean. Therefore I do not worry about pollutants. Boiling is the only way I go and will unless I feel the area is polluted in any way. But that would mean hiking in New Jersey, which when I do are day hikes so I carry what I will need.

I've got the ones from Wally world, they have the tabs that make the "nasty" taste go away. I guess they'll work fine in a pinch. And as far as the expiration date, I'm pretty sure
it does have one. But i'd have to go look to tell ya.

Definitely brand matter in this regard. Some brands need that the water be permitted to set for at least Half an hour after the product is dropped into the package. Others are formulated to work more quickly. So,quality also be differ brand by brand.
