by the way, not only did I once meet Natalie MacMaster, but I even asked her to marry me! Man, is she adorable!
cheers, mate!

Something about hiking and celtic music must go together. Is it because tin whistles fit in backpacks? I managed to combine them brilliantly last year on the West Cork Walking Festival in Ireland. Great walking, talking and a music session in the pub every night. Highly recommended! Here's the link to what I wrote:

the penny whistle is the perfect instrument for hiking. I have the set, but always brought along the smallest, and lightest one. I could figure out a few simple Irish tunes, but never came close to anything resembling a mastery of the trills and flourishes which the jigs really call out for.
and to all those who dig Celtic music:

Gotta say its hard not to like. Did you happen to catch the opening ceremony of the Olympics? They had a little Celtic mix in end of the production which I found a little surprising. The French arent known for their Celtic music are they?
damn, I missed it MKD. I bet it was good too. and yes, the celts are originally from france. they moved to ireland and england in the fourteenth century I think.

The Chieftans are generally considered the cream of the crop of Irish musicians.
