NW lower Michigan
Hey just wondering if anyone else lives (or vacations) in the northwestern part of lower Michigan who also enjoys hiking? Looking for other people in the area to go for regular hikes throughout the year (snowshoeing or x-c skiing in the winter time).

Re:NW lower Michigan
Well, that's what a good friend of mine who currently resides in Houston, TX says as well... She and I grew up in the Chicago, IL area together and she moved down to TX while I moved up north to the Traverse City, MI area....she thinks I am nuts because the cold doesn't bother me so much, and she hates the cold/snow with a passion; personally I don't like the idea of warm/hot temps outside yearround.....:-).

I like it cold too, especially while hiking. I actually prefer temps in the 30-40F range.
But Ive never been so cold in my life as when I was up there. It was "turn your fingernails blue" kinda cold. I dont know what the temps were.
As far as texas, it depends on where you are. I went hiking twice in Abilene, and one time it was extremely hot, the other time there was a ft of snow on the ground, but it was no where near the cold I felt near the great lakes.
Great Lakes has to rank right up there as the coldest place Ive ever been in this world.

HaHa It does get a little cold from time to time. After a while though its just apart of your life. Plus living here is worth every bit of hassle because the snow is so BEAUTIFUL and FUN! going from class to class in a white out or being out hunting or ice fishing or snow boarding and its like an adrenalin rush! i do not hike a lot though in the thick of winter there are days were i dont even let my dog stay out to long! but Michigan is a really nice state hot in the summer (to my standards) cold in the winter nice place eh?
