    backpacking boots question

    Hello all,
I am a beginner hiker, with just a few day trips under my belt. My more experienced friend and I are planning a week long trip in the Adriondacks for August, and I have a question about boots. I have a pair of EMS Cadence GTX boots (or shoes, not sure of the distinction) that I have used for biking in the rain for the last two years. Despite their age, they haven't been broken in because I rarely walk in them, but I love the Gore-tex waterproofing. Considering I have a 75 liter bag, and with my little experience I expect that bag to be overpacked with needless items, do you think these boots would be ok? Or should I spend the money and buy a pair of higher boots designed for backpacking. Thanks!
    Peter

    backpacking boots question

    hi peter,
i'd like to suggest that you take the time to put some weight into your pack (preferably close to the amount of weight you expect to carry on the trip), put on your shoes, and go for a 2 or 3 hour walk. see how your feet feel after that
