So to kinda jump in on the tail end of the conversation...if you're like me and you know how to use everything you're packing and wouldn't be comfortable leaving without most of it...just go through your kit and see what's pack that could have multiple uses or lighter solutions i.e butterfly strips instead of a suture kit (no need to worry about a sterile needle). IV fluids are great, but although you do it in the field everyday for your job, the woods is not the ideal setting for an IV catheter placement and fluid administration.

Just keep in mind, you may carry 40lbs of med. equiptment, but on the trail you don't need all of it. Go for comfort, something that doesn't remind you of work...
