hello all, im looking for some place where i can get in some solo backpacking, preferably in a remote area. It would only be about 3 days or so. I live in chicago and i was particularly interested if there is something in the midwest US area. thanks

The Ozarks have some awesome areas. I don't know much about wilderness. I went on a day canoe trip on some river in the Ozarks (long ago), it was quite lovely.
Another place to think of is somewhere in Wisconsin.
It's a pretty state. Upper Wisconsin or Upper Michigan would be a nice summer area. Pack the mosquito repellent. ;)

One if the best places for solo hiking/overnighters is not very from you in WI. Kettle Moraine State Forest.
If you search the WIDNR website you can find all of the state forest info.
If you don't mind the drive there are quite a few more located further north.
Kettle Moraine is somewhere around 3 hours north of Chi town

Im from Boston so anything west of Ohio is midwest to me. The Colorado trail is very remote and lonley. You could easily put together a 3 day hike there. Might be to far from Chicago.
