I was so hoping more members could give you their input, Pete :( Since I myself never hiked in bear-country I have never used any obviously.
I hope someone will still recommend a brand :)

sorry friend, i don't carry any. don't need to worry about them on the east coast nearly as much as those folks in the rockies

Let's keep this thread up (in the index) so it is easier to spot for those who do have experience with bear sprays ;)
I haven't purchased bear spray myself, but I have heard that most bear sprays have very limited effect as the mixture is often heavily diluted for safety reasons. But thats just what I've heard.

In PA it is mostly just Black bears. Don't really need to spray for that, no reason to. Just need to know how to scream loud and avoid crossing between them and meals or cubs. That is about it. Pretty sure Skunk spray keeps most things away. :)
