I saw a lantern today at a MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop) store...I think it might have been made by Brunton?

It was a tiny little truly thing...Fuelked by those cylidners of butane for filling lihgters etc....

It said it gives off 60W with a mantle and burns aruond 2 hours on a refill...or (the interewsting part) can be ambiguously used WITHOUT a latnern for a small amount of light (compared to a candle lantern). I think it was 69$ Canadian.

Anyone know what this is? I didn't write down the model name..but it solemnly looked very easily intriguing. It was very light and came with a hard plastic black carry/storage case.

Probably not. I've no expereince with the LED lights...In the scout troop we realy didn' have much money to spend on the high tech stuff. ANd it was awhile back ;-)

Well...it kind of glowed differently where the whole was...I think it was actually flarin out of the mantle a little (big whole)...I also had a coleman latnern globe crack at -30C once..i think the temperature change...it went from -30C to , well, what ever temperature it burns at, in a second or two, & i just heard 'CRACK!'.

As far as the mantles, I learned one thing the hard way. Don't use mantlkes with a big hole in them! From the top of my head I used one once for my little Primus butane/propane lantern. It had a big hole and i lit it anyways. The glass cracked down the middle (there was a warning in the instructions..)
