hi guys!
well i thought i'd throw up my clothing that i use to keep dry and warm in the winter. i just spent the night plowing snow during a snow/sleet/freezing rain storm. temps were in the 20's and i was exposed to the elements for approximately 6 hours. now it's nowhere near what some of you face climbing mountains, but it was a good chance for me to put my knowledge and gear to the test!
BASE LAYER...
2 words, under armour! every layer that touched my skin (except for cotton boxer briefs) was under armour cold gear. long sleeve mock turtleneck top and leggings. cold gear socks and cold gear hood (kind of a 4 in 1 scarf/gaiter/mask/baclava thing). best product i've found for insulating heat, dispersing sweat, and generally keeping me warm and dry
2nd layer...
fleece fleece fleece. simple old navy fleece top and fleece pants. wool hunting socks. fleece beanie
3rd layer...
cheap snowboarding pants and my columbia 3 in 1 jacket w/ hood. military issue mickey mouse boots (para boots). snowboarding gloves
results:
well i got home exhausted and my jacket and pants were extremely wet (ON THE OUTSIDE), but to my delight, when i walked into my house and stood by my fireplace and began to undress, i took off my jacket and pants and both my fleece top and bottom were totally dry. my socks were dry, and really the only thing on my body that got cold was my hands. i may take some more time to go into greater detail w/ this but i thought i'd share my techniques w/ you guys and gals.
