Not sure if this was a park or forest but in anycase I was there over Labor Day trying out some new gear. This is a nice park to begin hiking. Most trails are easy to moderate. The campsite can handle tents or small RVs and within the campsite area are regular bathrooms and showers. I used the campsite as a base and hiked three main trails over the weekend. Two go down near the Tilley river and the other goes to the top of Morrow mountain (900+ feet). Temp was 59 at night, 80 during the day and get this - no, not one, mosquito. I'm guessing the drought in the area eliminated the standing water. Cost was $15/day which I thought was high, but then I did morning hikes, showered and read the rest of the day. My three hikes were 4, 5, and 6 miles. Saw lots of deer, but small bucks. Base camps can be noisy, but I imagine later in the fall there will be fewer campers. I 'm heading out to Uwharrie (other side of the river) in Oct over a long weekend. They have a 20 mile trail where I can test a backpack and a primative tent campsite (no water) where you can park and set up a base for $5/day. These forests are near Troy, NC just east of Charlotte. Anyone else use these parks?
