Hello,
I am new to the site and came here looking for info on the hiking and canoeing in the Adirondacks. I live in southern NY and am looking to go hiking with my best friend after we get out of college. We would like to take a week trip and hike as well as canoe. He and I have done lots of camping before and know our way about the woods but have never been on a real hike or in the woods for a whole week.

Does anyone have a good suggestion about where we could find a trail that would be good for all the things I mentioned, or a place to find more info? Thanks!

Check on the the Northville-Placid Trail, it goes through the adks and has lots of shelters.

There are tons of options for hiking and canoeing in the Dacks. You can do both in the Wanakena area. What type of terrain are you looking for. If you want mountains I have suggestions in the High Peaks too. Just drop me a line.

Thanks for the replies guys! The trip ended up being a canoe trip in the st. regis canoe area. My friend and I had a good time and look forward to going out again next year!

Ask an ye shall recieve!

If i can figure out how to post pics that is, lol.

View from the top of St. Regis Mountain. St. Regis pond is in the center, and we camped on the point on the far shore in the right of the picture, where the pond narrows.

One of the many loons we saw. They were on every body of water and we heard them every night!

Our camp site on St. Regis pond. Thats me checking out the lean to and all the names carved in it. It was pretty cool and it was nice because there were cooking utensils and other things to use while staying there.

Our neighbors campsite across the pond. You can see St. Regis mountain (right peak) in the background, which is where the first picture was taken from.
