Hey all, So I some how lost my Platypus Water Bottle. when I bought it I felt like I went out on a limb. All in all I really liked it and it stood up very well. I really only had one concern and that was if it was going to leak. I wasnt worried about it leaking from the seams because they are welded. I dont know I've heard of them leaking from the screw on lid. I guess its no better or worst than any other water bottle lid. I was just wondering what you guys thougt. Did I just get lucky with a my bottle or was it just a matter of time???

hey there. Ive had metal canteens, plastic canteens, nalgenes, styrenes, and has beens, and of all the water containers Ive had the platypus water containers were the most fun. I had two of them, several years ago, and they served most admirably at home and on the trail. yessir, those are damned good canteens but they only last a couple years. for that reason I wont be getting any more of them. the cap broke on one of them and the seams wore out on the other. but, they were good fun while they lasted. yet another proof for the whole 'you get what you pay for' theory. cheers

White oak, thanks for the info. I was looking for some solid feeback. I kinda of figured they would only last a few years based mainly on the fact they would stain up and get yucky on the inside. I dont think they cost to much and I think it would be worth it for the weight savings. I just hope I never have one leak on me.

I actually agree with you on this one. I don't use them myself, but not a bad idea at all. So as long as they don’t pop holes easily...

the two new platypus water bottles came in the mail today. the new design seems much sturdier than before, with an entirely welded top and opening which seems far superior to the older style which only lasted through five years of hiking. these new ones seem to be worth nine bucks each, easily.

the platys are nice, but i'm fairly certain the gatorade bottles will be lighter. yes john they are very sturdy, however they don't hold boiling water in them. so i always bring 1 hard nalgene bottle for a hot water bottle at night...

a platypus one liter water bottle weights .9 ounces each. and whats more important to me is that the soft sides dont bump my poor dog in her ribs when she is carrying them for me.

I always feel like my camelback is going to explode in my pack under the weight of the things inside. So I only use it on the camelback backpack for quick day hikes.
