for my dgree project, i am thinking of designing a bvi style shelter for beginner/first time hikers. Many beginners are underequipped when they take to the mountains and are naive to the danges. my product will encourage mountain safety through a system intergrated with the product.
who thinks this is good/ crap?
let me know.

What type of things are you going to have intergrated into the shelter? A whistle/first aid kit? Or stuff like the chocking poster you see alot?
You have to expand on what it will actually be before we can say if we think it's good or crap. If I told you I was going to make a piece of plastic attached to the end of a string and left it at that you would think the idea is dumb. Next time you go lace up your shoes you will realize how smart it actually is.

Excellent answer - I was about to fall into the trap and you've saved me :-)
Generally I think that increasing safety is a great idea, if you find something interesting - you should patent it, as it's probably worth a damn load of money.
I doubt though that you'll find something Jansport and Kelty didn't think of though...
