Hey everyone,
I'm gona start doing backcountry backpack trips in the Sierras. Iv done reading and it seems like hanging food or bear proof storage is the best way to go. I also carry an airhorn and bear maze, but I was wondering wether anyone had experience with those electric bear fences you set up around your tent. Scam or no scam?

I just want all the protection I can get and don't mind the extra weight.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, all the bear wanted was a hug?.. why didn't anyone tell me this before, poor thing must just be lonely:side:
Thanks for the replies and here are a few links:

2nd link says that the device is 18 pounds, couldn't find voltage. REI's has "•8,000 volts of electricity send a serious shock to any curious creature that gets too close"....hmmm

I really don't want to hurt bears, but if I'm hiking by myself all day, animals will notice. Bears will probably check out my camp while I sleep, tents/people mean food (even if I hang my food far away),.. and I wana to go sleep without having to worry about it to much.

I have never hiked in grizzly country. I think if I had to carry an extra awkward 8-lbs I wouldn't go.
