I was just wondering if anyone has tried this while backpacking?

I have one of these I use for day hikes. It works pretty well. The only Con is when you have a fresh filter you have a slight taste of Iodine. Once you use it a few times the taste is virtually non-existent. Its alot cheaper to and it seems to hold more volume.

I was just curious if it is bulky and how much it weighs. If I got this I wasn't intending to use it as something to hold/carry water. I was curious as to whether or not it could replace my water filter that I take with me backpacking.

I thought it might be a little faster rather having to hold onto a couple of rubber tubes and holding my water bottle between my knees and trying to balance while squatting. I hate having to pump water as I find it very awkward. But I'd rather do that than use tablets or boil.

Oh well... I guess I was just trying to be lazy.

MSR makes a nice small filter called the Hyperflow Microfilter that works well. It screws onto your nalgene or bladder.
