Can I pick everybody's brains for dayhikes near Boulder Colorado. There's a small chance I may be out there for about 3-4 days over Labor Day weekend. Please keep in mind that I am coming from an elevation of 800 feet so I probably don't want to get real high--no 14'ers please!
I would probably rent a compact car so no offroading either, sorry. Distance and elevation/grade is no problem as long as I am not rock climbing. I am into scenery and mountain peaks.

Plane tickets and car rental has been reserved. It's a done deal. We are hitting Boulder, CO over labor day. Now tell me where to go. I will have my wife and baby daughter who I can wear with a chest carrier. We can still do moderately difficult stuff.

I havent hiked near Boulder myself but try http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=12619 theres a bunch of stuff real close to Boulder since its right at the feet of the mountains.

Id stay on the Front Range since we are at 5000+ feet and your lungs are going to work extra hard.

Just be careful...watch out for hippies!

Thanks, that was very helpful. The combo of using Google Earth, plus looking up towns, mountain peaks, etc. up as I look around is quite fun.

As a short addition, we will not be taking our "then" 9 month old when we go, and we will start in Boulder, drive up to Estes Park, Rocky Mtn Nat Park, work down the west side of the continental divide near all the main ski towns (Vail, Winter Park, Breckenridge, etc), and probably come back east on I-70. Or we may come back east a bit further south and check ouy Colorado Springs or get down there from I70, or something like that.

So if anybody has any specific hikes to recommend anywhere in that vicinity, go ahead and shoot. They have to be day hikes, and I will probably request they not be real killer because my wife has to make it too!

Post edited by: Kris, at: 2009/07/09 15:29
