it's a pretty reliable stove from what i've heard. i know quite a few people who use it and like it. it's small and light.
2 other alternatives to check would be
snowpeak gigapower
coleman f1 ultralight
i don't think you'll go wrong w/ any of those 3

I've got the pocket rocket and I was wondering if you can expect it to work in colder temperatures. Mine seemed like like it was sputtering in cooler temps during the summer on the AT. Do you keep the tanks warm maybe or was this problem unusual?

The cold will affect propane, and butane stoves I have the Coleman F 1 which is similar to pocket rocket works good I haven't tried it below freezing made a cat alcohol stove for those days
could i buy a regular Coleman propane tank and use it or does it have to be a certain type of fuel?

I also have a pocket rocket. it works well for me. used it about a month ago on a winter backpacking trip. i am pretty sure you would be fine using coleman propane, i'll try fining my instruction book just in case.

The pocket rocket should only be used with MSR blend canister fuel, 70 Butane/30 Propane
or 80 IsoButane/20 Propane mix
Its commonly called ISOPRO

I have used my pocket rocket for the past 4 years with out a hitch. Winter, summer, wet weather, etc.
I use MSR isopro fuel but also have been using the jetboil mini isopros with great success.
It is one of the best no hassle, keep it simple stupid stoves on the market.
I have the pocket rocket,
its a great little stove that I took on my latest excursion, very good stove, I boiled water on it mostly but it does that very well, and is also incredibly efficient.

Panzer said it best, this is a great no-nonsense little stove. I have had one for more than a few years now and have never had any problems with it. I took it on a week-long trip into Yosemite when the temperature dropped so low that my beard had ice in it, but that damn stove still worked like a charm.
Anyone have any experience with the Vargo titanium alcohol stoves? I have been looking at these for a while now. Specifically the Titanium Triad and the Titanium Decagon stoves.
I use the Jetboil now, which I LOVE by the way. I'm just always looking for smaller and lighter.

a guy on another forum i participate on just recently sung the praises of vargo's stove, saying it had sturdier legs than the PR and was a great stove

I have the Vargo Triad titanium stove. I really like it, its small compact, and works in all weather conditions. The legs on it are pretty sturdy for a small stove like that.
I made a wind block/heat trapper out of aluminum sheeting. I put that around the stove and it works much better.

i thought that was a no-no with canister stoves due to explosion b/c of the reflecting heat back onto the canister
