i thank everyone whom helped me with my hiking staff question...now its time for another question...
i've been trying to find a decent pair of good hiking boots...only trouble is i cant find a good pair in my size (13 1/2 Wide) at a resonable price
the boots i use now are a basic pair or goverment issue combat boots....but i thought maybe some other type boot would be better....any help would be apreciated

i live in Kentucky....close to Indiana...but i plan on doing some hiking in Alabama..& possiblie Florida....
As has been said I agree. Hi-Tec makes a good product. I have had several pair. At that time I have never actually wore a pair to extinction. I just like to try brightly something new every single few years........
I love my $150 Vasques, but you know what? I love my $40 Hi-Tecs better. I wear them more often. Five years & they still look great & are still waterproof...

I highly recommend Asolo Fusion boots. They received an award from Backpacker Magazine 2005. Best of all, you can purchase then for less than $150. See this link (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=19544207&memberId=12500226).<br><br>Post edited by: oldboots, at: 2007/01/01 18:34

Good hiking boots is not something you should skimp on. The most common injury when hiking is an injury to an ankle. Our club requires members to wear hiking boots with ankle support on any hiking trip. Boots with good traction is also important.<br><br>Post edited by: hotlanta, at: 2007/01/23 22:40

That is pretty true. I brought a pair of hiking boots from REI...cost me $168. However, it hurts my ankles whenever I do a long hike...so I ended wear my trail run shoes. The only problem with trail run shoes is they are not too good with wet or snow path..because they don't have to much tractions....Then I have to go back wear my boots...I ended red and swalling ankles for days. :(<br><br>Post edited by: salmonlov, at: 2007/01/23 21:41

I suppose it's quite individually depending on which muscles you pull most, depending on the built of one's feet, but the Vasque boots are great...

I highly recommend the Montrail Torre GTX. They come in wide and are quick to break in but very sturdy boots. I have an wilderness adventure company (http://www.wildlandtrekking.com) and we recommend these boots more than any other pair. They run about $150 and will last you at least 3-5 years.
Cheers!

I bought Columbias on sale for 50 bucks. They rock, quick dry, good grip, and fit me well and by now are well broken in.
